Dual registration for athletes in U12 to U17
In the past, Little Athletics NSW dual aged athletes were asked to select a senior club when registering. The athlete’s data was then imported into the Athletics NSW membership platform and each athlete automatically allocated to an ANSW club as a member. This process was problematic and often confusing for the dual athlete.
This season to simplify the process for dual athletes, ANSW will require dual athletes to individually activate or renew their free ANSW dual membership via the ANSW membership platform. ANSW will send clear communications to all dual athletes regarding this process along with the ANSW Membership Go Live date.
ANSW Membership will open in September (at a date to be confirmed), so we ask you to standby until the registration period opens. Once registrations open, there will be clear step by step communication sent out to all athletes and clubs on how to register for the 2020/2021 season. Please note in addition to the LANSW bibs, dual athletes will be allocated ANSW bibs with a different number for use in ANSW competitions.
A COVID safe 2020/2021 season for WHAC at Gooden Reserve
Many of you competing in winter sports will be aware of the NSW public health order covering recreational sport. WHAC has completed a COVID safe plan which was endorsed by the Little Athletics association earlier this week. We are required to keep total attendees at Gooden below 500 people during all athletics running sessions. To comply with this, our season will work differently for 2020/2021. There will be two sessions on Saturday mornings, with Juniors (Tiny Tots to U11s) scheduled between 0730 and 0915 and Seniors (U12s to U17s) between 0945 and 1130. Further details regarding events not scheduled during the regular programmes (middle distance/walks events) will be available closer to our season start.
The 500 maximum attendee head count includes all athletes, parents, babies and officials. The WHAC committee has a lot of details to work through in the coming weeks to be prepared for running days to be compliant with the COVID safety plan. These include:
QR scanning set up for all attendees
Review of the event schedules and parent helper roster arrangements
Physical separation in field event areas
Sanitising kits for key areas
Attendee sheets for coaching sessions
Movement flow changes to minimise cross over
We appreciate these arrangements are vastly different to previous seasons, with impacts in particular on families with both Junior and Senior athletes. With 499 registered athletes last season (the 11th largest club in NSW), complying with the public health order to have a 2020/2021 season to allow little athletes an opportunity to compete has required these changes.
Like many of the other dramatic changes to our lives in recent months, there will be teething issues along with a need for flexibility, review and tweaking to make things work as well as they can. Claire Pospischil is our designated WHAC COVID Safety Coordinator.
Winston Hills Athletics Centre has been active for more than 40 years and is affiliated with the Little Athletics Association of NSW (LAANSW). Our centre continues to attract over 450 young athletes each season.
Our season generally runs from September to March on Saturday mornings at Gooden Reserve, Baulkham Hills. We cater for athletes ranging in age from 4 to 17.
