State Relays

The State Relay Championships is the largest event on the LANSW calendar in terms of number of competitors. As the name suggests the Championships are comprised entirely of relay events, both field & track. The performance of 4 individual athletes is combined to determine how many points they obtain as a team & where they place in the final results. A competitor who competes in a track relay CAN NOT compete in a field relay.

Who Can Compete?

The Championships officer will determine each age groups best team options & discuss these with each age manager. It is quite possible that an athlete may not compete in their best or preferred event. Teams are selected based on the best possible outcome for each team.

When and Where Will the State Relays Be Held?

State Relay will be held on the 11th & 12th November 2023 at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre (SOPAC). The Junior Day (U8 to U11) will be on the Saturday and the Senior Day (U12 to U17) will be on the Sunday.

Selection Criteria

The selection criteria for LAANSW carnivals and other carnivals nominated by WHLAC is based on the performance of athletes in a particular event. Performance results are used by the Championships Officer, with the assistance of the Age Manager, to select carnival participants where the athletes are provided with the best opportunities to reach their full potential. State Relays is a Centre Team Event and selections are based purely on performance results. Selection for Zone Carnivals seeks the preferences of individual athletes for events they wish to participate in, before making final selections based on preferences and performances.
