CLUB RECORDS

[Updated: 7 November 2008]

In a stunning effort on the track, U8B Jordan Hill has broken a 14 year old record in the 700m. Jordan has taken 1s off the record, with it now standing at 2m 36.0. Awesome effort Jordan.

On each running day Taylah Sengul has broken one of the throws records for the U13G age group and once again she is closing in on not only state records but national records also.

So far this Taylah has added the following to her string of exceptional club records:

Event Previous Now
Shot Put 11.90m 13.65m
Discus 40.61m 45.63m
Javelin 32.65m 39.76m

As you can see, Taylah has not simply snuck passed but produced some amazing performances so early in the season to smash these earlier records (which were very impressive in themselves).

Nicole Dahlberg (Shot Put, Javelin, 90H, 200H), Emily Jordan (100m, 200m, Long Jump, High Jump), Louise Marvin (400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m), Rebecca Houston (200H, 1500W), Mahsa Javam (Discus) have all set a number of records for the U17G. Anthony Baddock (100m, 400m, 200H, Long Jump, Triple Jump), Sam Shepherd (800m, Discus), Jay Ridge (100H, High Jump), Maeva-nui Teina (Shot Put) have done likewise in the U17B. For details, see our Records page.

WHLAC CELEBRATION DAY

[Updated: 23 October 2008]

Despite some technical difficulties and the threat of an electrical storm, our Celebration Day was a success last Sunday afternoon. We would like to thank everyone for attending, your patience and your assistance.

Trialing a new format for the first time this year, we had 76 athletes participating across the Winston Hills Mall 100m Gift and the Mall Mile. Congratulations to all that participated from youngest to oldest who all were very excited at the prospect of becoming the overall club champion.

Our Winston Hills Mall 100m Gift winners and placegetters were as follows:

Junior Girls 1st Mia Munro
  2nd Priyanka Sangar
  3rd Anabel Fryer
Junior Boys 1st (eq) Chris Durante
  1st (eq) Xavier Adams
  3rd Connor Rose
Intermediate Girls 1st Abbey Radford
  2nd Lucy Laing
  3rd Paris Saunders-Jones
Intermediate Boys 1st Adam Mylonas
  2nd Kyle Follers
  3rd James Sullivan
Senior Girls 1st (eq) Shinelle Baker
  1st (eq) Daniela Mayol
  3rd Emily Morgan
Senior Boys 1st David Thomson

In the grand finale challenge, Adam Mylonas, from the U12 Boys just managed to catch Abbey Radford on the finish line to claim the overall champion status.

The Mall Mile saw some sensational running from some of the clubs top distance runners. In the end it was another of the Intermediate Boys who came out ahead, with Nicholas Shiel from the U11 Boys showing determination and a great deal of stamina to come home ahead of Adam Mylonas (2nd) and Shinelle Baker (3rd).

We look forward to presenting each of our placegetters with their Winston Hills Mall gift vouchers at the start of our next running day.

The threat of the storm meant we had to postpone the 4 x 100m Relay Challenge and also the Adults 60m "sprint". We hope to reschedule these to a later date.

Thank you to all our sponsors who made this day possible, in particular:

WHLAC ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2008

[Added: 26 May 2008]

At the WHLAC Annual General Meeting 2008 conducted on  Sunday 25 May 2008 at Gooden Reserve, a new Committee was elected and two new life members inducted.

The new executive is constituted by Paul Byron (President), Peter Mylonas (Vice-President), Penny Morgan (Secretary), Rob Lowe (Registrar) and Jack Edwards (Treasurer). Several others were elected as general members of the management committee, roles for which will be determined at the next Committee meeting. We thank all those "retiring" committee members for their input and efforts over the last twelve months and, for some, their many years of service.

A very warm congratulations to both Peter Mylonas and Christine Huston who were both afforded life member status of WHLAC for their long-standing commitment to our athletes and the operation of our centre. Both Peter & Christine have been involved in many capacities within the centre for over 15 years and are more than worthy recipients of this honour.
