Carnival Results

The Little Athletics NSW website includes a comprehensive coverage of results from numerous carnivals over the last couple of years and can be accessed here and by following the links to Championships then Results.

We will endeavour to highlight results specific to our Centre arising from these Carnivals in recognition of the tremendous effort put in by each of our athletes.

State Championships 2009

Multi's 2009

Region 2009

Zone 2009

State Relays 2008

Recording individual athlete results

At registration, each athlete will be provided with a record book. All results from centre running days are recorded on the centre's computer system and a results ticket sheet printed and returned to each athlete at the following running day. The results book is for pasting in the results tickets issued for each attempted event, each week. The athlete will be able to record a complete history of their performance during the season.

Athletes are also able to record their own results on the Australian Little Athletics website at www.me.  Upon entering your weekly results you can see graphs of your season performance and also print out your own certificates when you achieve a personal best.

Personal Improvement Point Score

A point score system is used to encourage athletes to improve on their own performance, rather than against each other. The greater the improvement for a particular event, the greater the number of points awarded.  Points are also awarded for attendance and participation in each event.  Attaining a personal best result for any event will attain more points for the athlete than being the winner of the event.

Actual point calculations and running totals are calculated by and maintained on the WHLAC computer system and are not available to parents or the athletes themselves.

2009 State Multi-Event Championships

What a challenge!

After driving for an eternity we arrived (collapsed) in fabulous Ballina for our weekend of Multi-Event fun. The track prepared by Lismore LAC was fantastic & the atmosphere of the whole weekend was like a picnic race meeting. Our small group of athletes were determined to have as much fun as the parents, so keeping them focussed was something of a problem.

Most of the State’s top Multi event athletes turned up, so for a small carnival, the competition was hot indeed. It was great to see some of our QLD friends competing also.

Everyone had a great carnival & we came away with 5 “top 8” finishes:

U10 Boys
►
Joshua Baker 1st

U12 Boys
Joshua Byron 4th
Corey Mackay 8th

U15 Girls
Bianca Mayol 3rd

U17 Boys
Anthony Baddock 3rd

Other results were:

U8 Boys
Brody Mackay 23rd

U9 Boys
Kieran Lowe 21st

U11 Boys
Jaidyn Mackay 17th

U12 Boys
Connor Manz 20th
Adam Mylonas 22nd

U14 Girls
Shinelle Baker 11th

U17 Girls
Rebecca Houston 12th
Caitlin Lowe 15th

The team was struck down with a few notable absences & injuries, but battled on to a great result from such a small bunch.

Congratulations to all those who competed & especially to the parents who travelled so far to allow them to do so. It was once said that “Multi’s is the end of season carnival the parents go away for & the kids compete whether they like it or not”. While this was intended to be tongue-in-cheek, it is fair to say the social side of Multi’s was in full swing last weekend.

I can’t wait for next year’s event in Nowra. The Shoalhaven High School track is one of the best in the State & having been to a few of Shoalhaven LAC’s gala days, I can tell you they put on a great carnival. Accommodation will be at a premium & we will be trying to source a location where we can all stay together. Keep an eye out on the website for updates. It promises to be the best ever Multi’s; from both an athletics & social perspective!

Good one, team!

CONGRATULATIONS to all athletes and their families who travelled up to Mingara on the Central Coast. Once again our athletes had plenty to be proud about with outstanding efforts all round. At the end of the weekend’s competition we have 33 athletes progressing to the State Championships! Well done to these athletes and all athletes who competed.

Full Region results and State qualifiers performances can be found at the NWMet Zone website.

A big thank you to Peter Mylonas who undertook much of the organisation of the carnival in his role as Zone Co-ordinator. And also thank you to the large contingent of Winston Hills officials who helped make the event run so smoothly.

Taylah Sengul made her presence felt at the Regional Championships last weekend, by not only winning all three throws disciplines in her age group (U13 Girls), but also smashing the Regional Championships Records with the following throws:

► Shot Put 14.23m

► Javelin 44.37m

► Discus 46.71m

Taylah’s throws are now longer than the State Records and the Australian Best Performance Records in each of these events for her age group. However, these results still need to be ratified to check whether these distances have been bettered at another Regional carnival. Stay tuned….

The U17’s also had a chance to create history, as this was the first time this age group has competed at Regions. Congratulations to the following U17 athletes who now hold a Regional Championship record.

► Nicole Dahlberg Javelin 30.85m

► Rebecca Houston 1500m Walk 8m 47.8s

► Anthony Baddock 200m Hurdles 25.5s

► Maeva Teina Shot Put 15.08m Discus 39.26m

2009 North West Met Zone

Last weekend approximately 192 athletes from WHLAC competed at the Zone Championships held at Roxborough Park, Baulkham Hills. It was a very long and hot weekend ... but lots of PBs and great results were achieved by all our athletes.

By the end of the weekend, we have 90 athletes that have qualified to represent our club at the Region Carnival to be held at Mingara on the Central Coast. We also have 3 out of our 4 relay teams qualify. There is also a large group of athletes that did not necessarily make the top 4 but did make the final 8 and will receive a certificate for their achievement. All athletes that competed over the weekend will receive a cloth badge for their participation. Congratulations to all those athletes on a job well done!!

It was great to see the enthusiastic smiles of our under 7’s – this was their first opportunity to compete at a zone carnival and I hope they enjoyed the experience. I am sure there were many PBs achieved, along with some very good results and a number of medals won during the weekend.

The Regional carnival will be run on the weekend of the 21 & 22 February at Mingara, Tumbi Umbi on the Central Coast. Good luck to all those athletes making the trip up north to compete in this carnival. There is a link on our website to the North West Zone website that lists all the region qualifiers. The top 4 in each event from zone automatically qualify. If you do not have internet access and wish to check if you have qualified, please contact me. If you want a programme for Region please order them today at the Clubhouse.

If you are unable to compete at Region, please contact me ASAP so I can advise the zone co-ordinator who can then contact any reserve and give them the opportunity to compete in your place.

Once again, congratulations to all athletes on their achievement last weekend and I wish those athletes going on to region all the very best.

Championship Officer

2008 State Relays

State Relays 2008 were held at Campbelltown Athletics Centre on the weekend of 22 and 23 November in what can only be described as unseasonably, unpleasant weather. However, our athletes showed great commitment and put in more outstanding performances to come away with a swag of medals and other top 8 finishes.

In the final "wash-up" (it was wet!), our athletes achieved 5 gold medals, 2 silver and 2 bronze. We had 11 other top 8 finishes. Congratulations to the U10 Boys 4 x 100m team which picked up our only track gold medal. Our senior girls dominated the throwing events, bring home gold in all events entered (U12 Girls Shot/Discus, U13 Girls Shot/Discus, U15 Girls Shot/Discus and U17 Girls Shot/Discus). Our U13 Girls 4 x 100m team also collected silver as did the U12 Boys Shot/Discus team. Bronze medals were achieved by U10 Mixed 4 x 400m and U17 Girls Long/High teams.

With a new point score formula in place this year, all our throwing gold medal winning teams now also hold the State record.

The full results are available on www.laansw.com.au. Click on Competitions, then Results, then State Relay Championships.

Well done to all our athletes who competed and also to their families and supporters who braved the conditions over the weekend.
