President: Andrew Martin
On behalf of
the committee of Winston Hills Little Athletics Centre I would like to
extend a very warm welcome to all the athletes and their families, and
in particular our new participants, for the 2010/2011 season. To this end, this season the Committee are excited to introduce non-competitive skills sessions into the program for our athletes in the U6 and U7 age groups. This extension of the program is intended to introduce our youngest athletes to athletic skills and techniques in a fun and non-competitive environment. Whilst these age groups will also participate in “regular” athletic events, athletes of all abilities will achieve a better grounding in a range of relevant techniques. We will continue to develop this skills program with the view to securing the future of the sport and our Centre’s success. We are committed to giving our young athletes every opportunity to participate in Athletics in a social and friendly environment. WHLAC strives for excellence, not only in providing a safe environment for the athletes to learn and enjoy their sport but also in the area of facilities and equipment. This is due in no small part to the generosity of our sponsors, many of whom have supported us for a number of years. I would like to extend a very warm welcome and thank you to our new major sponsor this season, ARTLINE, makers of stationary products under the Artline and Spirax brands. All our sponsors and supporters are listed at the back of this booklet and will be advertised throughout the season in our newsletters and on our very informative website www.whlac.org.au. Please support all our sponsors as much as they support our kids. One of the most outstanding assets the Centre possesses is the dedicated coaching that is available from Monday to Friday each week. We have over 15 active, accredited level 1, 2, 3 and 4 coaches available across all disciplines for athletes of all abilities. Coaching is free and takes place most weekday evenings during the season. A Coaching Schedule will be posted on our website at the start of the season and will also appear in our newsletter. Whilst some instruction is possible during our Saturday mornings, these coaching sessions are the best way for athletes to get personal instruction and to develop event specific skills and techniques. We encourage all our athletes to attend these sessions. Unlike team sports, it takes many more than one or two officials to conduct athletics. We ask that parents become personally involved by assisting in the running of our Saturday morning events. It is WHLAC and LAANSW policy that parents do not leave their children unattended at the Centre, so take the opportunity to join in the fun and help out. Each age group has a specific area of responsibility this season, so please assist your child’s age manager when asked. You will find that you and your children will enjoy athletics more if you take an active supporting role; just ask any of the Committee or Age Managers. In closing, please remember that the first few weeks of the season can be very hectic. We thank you for your patience and understanding as new athletes, parents and age managers settle in. If at any time during the season you have any questions or suggestions related to the running of our Centre, please do not hesitate to approach me or one of our Committee who will be more than happy to discuss these with you.
