Welcome to Winston Hills Little
Athletics Centre, to those returning and to those joining us for the
first time. The Committee hopes that you will enjoy your season with us.
We encourage you to read through the important information on this
website which will provide you with basic information you need to know
about the operation of our Centre. You can find further and updated
information on our Facebook page and in our newsletters throughout the
season. You are also more than welcome to approach me or any of the
Committee members (the “yellow shirts”) before or after competition on
Saturdays to ask questions or raise any concerns.
The introduction of basic skills sessions for U6 and U7 athletes last
season was a great success and we will look to build and improve on
those sessions this year. We remain committed to giving our young
athletes every opportunity to participate in athletics and learn new
skills in a social and friendly environment. This includes our free
weeknight coaching sessions available in most disciplines for athletes
of all ability, delivered by some of our 20+ qualified coaching team.
Sponsorship is an invaluable asset to Centres such as ours. With
financial support we are able to keep our fees at very reasonable levels
and provide all the equipment needed by our athletes and for the general
operation of the Centre. Pelikan Artline, behind the Artline and Spirax
stationary brands, returns as our major sponsor for a second season and
we are most grateful for their substantial support. We also thank the
Winston Hills Mall for their long time support of the Centre. This
season we also offer a very warm welcome and thank you to the Pendle
Hill Meat Market as another significant supporter of our Centre. Please
check out the list of our other sponsors and supporters on the website
and in our newsletters. Please support these business and organisations
as they assist your children’s sport.
When it comes to running a Centre such as ours, we are very much reliant
on parental assistance and participation. At the very least we ask that
ALL parents lend a hand at event areas on a Saturday morning. There is a
lot of equipment required to be set up and packed up and each age groups
is assigned an area to assist with throughout the season and we would
appreciate all families helping with this. For the enthusiastic, we have
a committee that very much welcomes new ideas and energy to keep our
Centre moving forward. What many don’t appreciate is that the athletes
really love seeing their parents/carers getting involved and helping
out, right in the thick of the action. Please don’t be backward in
coming forward.
Remember, Little Athletics is also about participation and personal
improvement. It is not about winning but about being involved, learning
new skills and developing existing skills. Please help us in conveying
this to all of the athletes, with an emphasis on the sports motto
“Family, Fun & Fitness”. With this in mind it should be another great
season for all at Winston Hills Little Athletics.
